Vardhman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) was formerly called the Kota Open University began the the year 1987.  The University aims to offer excellence in academics and management while working with several distance learning resources. The university headquarters is located at Kota and its jurisdiction covers the whole state of Rajasthan. Admissions are conducted twice in a year (January and July).

2. Programme Specific Study Centres. E.g. B.Ed.
3. Clientele specific Study Centres. E.g. for women and army.
4. Satellite Study Centres for rural and army areas.

The Vardhman Mahaveer Open University (VMOU) provides graduate, post graduate, and Ph.D. courses. The system of assessment is based on a 5 point system of grading. General and inter-disciplinary research services can be found in some of the courses.
